With a total of 14 slots, the company's MicroTCA backplane hosts 12 AMC slots, one power module slot, and one MicroTCA controller hub slot in its single-width, full-size format. The backplane allows single or redundant virtual carriers to provide power management, platform management, and fabric connections to greater numbers of modules than a single physical carrier card could support in a classic ATCA application. Other features include a 16-layer, controlled-impedance stripline design and a single star topology. Plans for a 14-slot dual star with dual power and MCH slots are in the works. Pricing for the 14-slot MicroTCA backplane is under $500 each depending on volume and configuration requirements. ELMA ELECTRONIC INC., Fremont, CA. (510) 656-3400.
