These miniature terminations exhibit 75 ohms of impedance, with envelope dimensions conforming to the miniature size of MIL-PRF-39012 SMB series connectors. The terminations's convenient snap-on mating and small size makes the devices suitable for use in applications requiring dense packaging. They feature Teflon insulators, which protect the center contacts from damage if they are misaligned during mating. The insulators are colored a bright red for easy visual confirmation of their 75 ohm characteristic impedance. And a closed-end mating hood helps guide the terminations into proper alignment during mating, and closed-end center contacts provide additional resistance to mismating damage. The use of a precise (±1% tolerance) 75 ohm rod resistor enables the terminations to dissipate a watt of power at normal ambient temperature, with derating to 100 mW at 125° C. The SMB terminations consist of a tempered brass body and beryllium-copper closed-entry female center contacts.
