The high insulating properties of a new miniature signal relay is said to eliminate the need for supplementary transformers to separate telephone network voltage (TNV) circuits. The FTR-C2, a 2 Form C relay, features 2.0 mm gaps between coil and contact, between open contacts, and between contact sets to meet the Working Voltage 250V insulation specification of the IEC60950 standard. The company says it designed the relay using a minimal number of components to reduce the size of the relay (11.6 mm x 20.2 mm x 10 mm), while still obtaining the 2 mm clearance. The 1A device features 0.3W nominal power, a 3 kV dielectric withstand voltage (avg.), 2.5-kV lightning surge protection (10/700 ms), and 2.5 mm creepage. Applications include office equipment such as photocopiers, facsimile machines and modems. Available in surface-mount and through-hole versions, the FTR-C2 cost $4 each/10,000.
