Omron Components Business Europe has appointed Abacus Polar as a distributor for its range of components in the UK and Ireland.

The appointment is described as a strategic move to extend Omron’s channel partnerships to take its portfolio of technologies to a wider customer base. Nigel Blakeway, chief operating officer of Omron Components Business Europe said: “Omron is evolving rapidly. We are moving into new areas such as MEMs sensors for industrial and medical applications, as well as expanding our established switching components to address challenges in Broadband Communications, automotive and other markets. These developments are driving a need for additional distribution partnerships that are complementary to our existing relationships, addressing new customers in new markets.”

Commenting on the choice of Abacus Polar, Blakeway added: “Abacus Polar has a unique approach to demand creation, with a highly technical sales force located close to its customers in regional offices throughout the UK and Ireland. We believe that they are the right partner to work with us in identifying new opportunities with a broader customer base for our fast developing portfolio of technologies and solutions.”

Under the agreement, Abacus Polar will provide technical and logistical support across Omron’s electromechanical relays and switches, connectors, solid-state switches and sensor products. Customers will be supported via 17 Abacus Polar regional offices in the UK and Ireland, and the Abacus Distribution Centre in Ashton-under-Lyne, England.
