Embarking as the first member of the SensorEyeC series optical sensors for high-volume automotive, industrial, and consumer applications, the MLX75303 integrates a photodiode, transimpedance amplifier, and a Schmitt trigger voltage output stage. The integrated topology guarantees stable light responsivity over time/temperature, and improves noise behavior when compared to discrete designs. Capable of reliable operation in dust-and-dirt environments, the sensor continues functioning with a response time of 10 µs typical (20 µs maximum) while being oversaturated by a strong light source up to 1,000x the sensor’s switch-on threshold. Other features include an open cavity DFN package measuring 3 mm x 3 mm x 0.65 mm (also available in an SO8 package), a pin-to-photodiode accuracy beyond ±85 µm, and an operating temperature range from -40°C to +125°C that meets AEC-Q100 automotive specifications. Price for the MLX75303 is below $0.50 each in OEM quantities. MELEXIS USA, Concord, NH. (603) 223-2362.
