VCXO Provides 0.5- To 2.5-V Control-Voltage Span And ±100-ppm Capture The M6322 voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO) provides a tight voltage-control span of 0.5 to 2.5 V. It simplifies 3.3-V equipment by providing ±100 ppm frequency capture without needing rail-to-rail parts. Also, it provides protection against 10% supply-voltage dips by operating down to 3 V.

The oscillator develops a 44.376-MHz center frequency with control voltage at 1.5 V. Ensuring better than 2:1 linearity of the frequency-voltage characteristic, the device has a minimum pull of ±100 ppm and a maximum pull of ±200 ppm. It meets the needs of advanced phase-locked loops.

The VCXO is available for center frequencies from 3 to 50 MHz. Center-frequency offset at 1.5 V is less than ±50 ppm over the −40°C to 85°C temperature range. Wave-form symmetry exceeds 45/55. The device offers a typical rise time of 2 ns and a typical jitter of 6 ps. Maximum load current at 50 MHz is 35 mA, dropping to 14 mA maximum for 3-MHz versions. All versions are compatible with CMOS logic families.

Available now, the M6322 costs between $14.50 and $24.50 in OEM quantities.

Off-The-Shelf Crystal Oscillator Fits PRISM I, II, And III Chip Sets The F4106-440 off-the-shelf CMOS oscillator suits the Prism I, II, and III chip sets for wireless connectivity applications.

In an industry-standard 5- by 7-mm ceramic SMD package, the oscillator features 3.3-V operation. It offers a 1.5-mm profile and a frequency of 44.0 MHz. The standard operating-temperature range is −10°C to 70°C. An optional extended temperature range of −40°C to 85°C is available for special order. Also available on special order is a 22.00-MHz version of this oscillator for use with the PRISM I.

In 1000-unit quantities, the F4106-440 typically costs $5.00 each.

VCO Exhibits Low-Noise Performance For Satellite Modems The V610ME04 voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) provides low-noise performance for use in satellite modem applications. The device generates frequencies between 1950 and 2150 MHz within the 0.5- to 4.5-V dc control-voltage range. It covers the band with an average intensity of 72 MHz/V.

Designed for outdoor applications, the oscillator offers a typical clean spectral signal of −96 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz from the carrier. It operates over the extended commercial temperature range of −40°C to 75°C. It operates off a 4.5-V dc source while drawing only 16 mA. Also, it provides the end user with 5±2 dBm of output power into a 50-Ω load. The oscillator pushes less than 3 MHz/V within a 5% change of the supply voltage and pulls less than 10 MHz with a 14-dB return loss.

The oscillator comes in an industry-standard mini surface-mount package measuring 0.50 by 0.50 by 0.22 in. It suits automated surface-mount assembly and reflow. It is available in tape-and-reel packaging. In 1000-unit quantities, the V610ME04 costs $15.95 each.

Metal-Can Quartz-Crystal Units Ease Shortages And Long Lead Times Members of the AS-XXD family of surface-mount can quartz-crystal units ease the shortages and long lead times that are common to similar units that are normally delivered in plastic and ceramic packages.

The family consists of a total of five different pinout configurations in the HC-49 low-profile metal package. While dimensionally and electrically identical, the devices are fitted with a selection of different SMT pad inserts on the bottom. They are fabricated with common AT or BT strip crystals in 4.9-mm high metal cans. Standard frequency tolerance at 25°C is ±50 ppm maximum, and the standard operating- temperature range is −20°C to 70°C. All devices are available with optional high-stability specifications of ±30 ppm over the full temperature range and an extended operating-temperature range of −40°C to 85°C. The typical drive level is 0.1 mW, and the maximum load capacitance is 32 pF.

Available now, the AS-XXD family is priced at $0.65 or less in OEM 10,000-unit quantities.
