A new magnetostrictive position sensor has been designed with a captive slide as an upgrade for traditional rodless position sensor applications. The TLM captive slide marker incorporates a ball coupling to create a physical link with a moving part without sacrificing the accuracy inherent in the company’s measuring technology. This technology uses an ASIC to provide signal conditioning and linearization for absolute linearity of less than ±30 µm over stroke lengths from 100 mm to 4,500 mm. The position sensor’s data output rate is 16 kHz. Resolution is less than or equal to 2 µm and repeatability is less than or equal to 6 µm in start/stop mode. The sensor is sealed to IP 67 and available with SSI, start/stop and the company’s DyMoS digital outputs as well as analog outputs of 0V to 10V, 0 to 20 mA and 4 to 20 mA.
