A line of "do it yourself" potentiometer element and rotor wiper assemblies boasts devices measuring only 0.187 in. thick. They provide 100 million revolutions minimum of smooth precision sensing. Because no shaft housings or bearings are required, the parts take up only about half the space of standard-size potentiometer units. The assemblies provide high reliability with continuous 4-rpm operation and a 50-year minimum lifetime. They come in kits that include the element shaft, a shaft insulator, a rotor assembly, and assembly instructions. Assembly takes only a few minutes. In addition to standard sizes, kits can be customized with virtually any diameter, resistance, linearity, thickness, or electrical angle to meet design requirements. Pricing is about $25 each for 1000-piece quantities, depending on model. Delivery is in four to six weeks.
