Connecting directly to the system CPU and transmitting clock and calendar data to the host CPU, RS5C314 CMOS real-time clock IC comes housed in an ultra-compact, 8-pin SSOP package, making it well-suited for use in small portable applications requiring low power consumption. Data transmission is accomplished by direct CPU connection via three serial signal lines. Driving an oscillation circuit at constant voltage, the circuit undergoes few voltage fluctuations and consequently realizes low current consumption of a typical 0.7 µA at 3V. The device generates interrupt clock pulses ranging from 1 month to 1/1024 Hz, interrupt flags and interrupt halt. Time keeping supply voltage is 1.6V to 6V and operating supply voltage can range from 2.7V to 6V. A software-based oscillator halt sensing function is available for data valid at power-up or other events.
