Meeting voltage and hold current requirements spelled out in IEEE802.3af Ethernet specs, the PolySwitch SMD050-2018 has been developed to help provide resettable overcurrent protection for Voice Over IP (VoIP) and powered Ethernet equipment. When installed between the power source and output of powered Ethernet equipment, the resettable device serves as a second layer of defense in the power management circuit. Should any power control FET fail, the device shuts down the individual port and helps prevent a system-wide power failure, with the device resetting after the fault condition and power are removed. The SMD050-2018 also helps overcome fatigue failures, unrecoverable nuisance tripping, and more. And with a FIT of less than 0.01 when used at rated voltages, the PolySwitch is said to offer a new class of reliability and survivability. Price: $0.26 each/100,000.
