Shunt Resistors Handle High-Current Sensing

Jan. 23, 2014
Stackpole’s HCS series of high-current shunt resistors uses a raised metal element that delivers robust current and surge handling, yet minimizes the amount of heat forced into a printed-circuit board and surrounding components.

Stackpole’s HCS series of high-current shunt resistors uses a raised metal element that delivers robust current and surge handling, yet minimizes the amount of heat forced into a printed-circuit board and surrounding components. Temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) ranges from 50 to 150 ppm, depending on the value. Tolerances of 1% and 5% are available. The come in 3W 2512 and 5W 3920 chip sizes, with values of 0.3, 0.5, and 1 mΩ. Applications include power supplies and modules, frequency converters, engine and motor controls, portable power and battery management, and robotics.
