New solid state cooling/heating products are designed to operate within a Class 1 Division 2 hazardous environment. The thermoelectric units are tested to meet UL STD 1604, and UL STD 1995, when installed on a purged enclosure. Models come in 800 and 1,500 BTU cooling capacities, in 115V and 230V, 50 Hz to 60 Hz power. Units have internal regulation and are said to perform equally well at 110V to 130V or 200V to 250V. This is especially significant to users where "brownout" and low-voltage conditions cause many systems to malfunction or fail, the company says. Distinct advantages over conventional compressor-based systems include compact size and light weight, while requiring no Freon, filters or compressors.
