Models in six new series of high-current surface-mount inductors are designed for compact dc-dc converter applications. These devices come in the 2512, 5020, and 7328 packages, with both shielded and unshielded options for each package type. Package outlines measure as small as 6.6 by 4.5 mm, with a 2.92-mm height profile. According to the manufacturer, these small inductors will save space in power-conversion designs in notebook computers, cell phones, pagers, and a variety of other handheld devices.

All six families are provided in tape and reel form for automated assembly. They feature rugged construction that allows normal exposure to infrared reflow solder to 260°C. Samples and production quantities are now available, with six- to eight-week lead times for larger orders. Pricing for the surface-mount inductors in 1000-piece quantities ranges from $0.60 to $0.80, depending on the type of model. rg
