Thermopile Sensor Enables Fast, Accurate Temperature Measurements

Dec. 21, 2011
The MLX90616ESF-HCA thermopile sensor with integrated electronic stabilization function uses proprietary technology to reduce stabilization periods to less than half a minute.

The MLX90616ESF-HCA thermopile sensor with integrated electronic stabilization function uses proprietary technology to reduce stabilization periods to less than half a minute. It also incorporates a secondary thermopile sensor to detect temperature variations in the package and in the optical assembly. Capable of measuring temperature up to a maximum of +1,030ºC, the MLX90616 is factory calibrated in a temperature range of -40°C to 85°C for the ambient temperature. For integration in thermometer guns it comes with an 8 to 12 micron optical filter. Calculated object and ambient temperatures are available from RAM memory with a resolution of 0.02°C. They are accessible via a two-wire SMBus-compatible protocol or via a 10-bit PWM output. Available in a four-pin TO-39 package, price for the MLX90616ESF-HCA is $16 per 100 pieces.
