Toshiba Selects ARM Processor For Autos

Toshiba Corporation licensed ARM’s Cortex(TM)-M3 processor to expand its portfolio of microcontrollers and solutions for the automotive controller market. The ARM processor enables users to migrate applications from legacy components to 32-bit microcontrollers and performs at up to 1.25DMIPS/MHz with fewer than 40,000 gates. "The automotive controller market is deploying increasingly complex applications on microcontrollers while demanding increased safety certification and improved code reuse,” Yutaka Murao, senior fellow for the System LSI Division of Toshiba’s semiconductor arm. “The open nature of the ARM platform and tools, coupled with specific safety-robust IP, enables us to deliver the solutions our customers are demanding for the next generation of vehicles."
