Wide-Terminal Chip Resistors Handle Higher Powers

Oct. 9, 2007
With current-sensing capability, the WK73 series of wide-terminal flat chip resistors from KOA Speer Electronics suits use in automotive electronics, ECUs, anti-lock braking systems, and airbag systems.

Designed for enhanced heat dissipation, the WK73 series of wide-terminal flat chip resistors from KOA Speer Electronics features higher power ratings than previous series and ensures high reliability. For example, the WK73S3A (1225 size) is rated at 1.5 W, compared to the company's RK73BA (2512 size), which has a 1-W rating. Additionally, the WK73 resistors provide current sensing for power-supply circuits, which suits them well for automotive electronics, engine control units (ECUs), anti-lock braking systems, and airbag systems.

The resistors' wide-terminal construction gives the WK73 series superior thermal shock characteristics and high solder-joint reliability. The series includes resistances from 22 mΩ to 1 MΩ at tolerances of 1% and 5% and power ratings of 1.0 and 1.5 W at 70°C. Temperature coefficients of resistance include ±100, ±200, ±300, and ±800 ppm/°C. The resistors come in sizes of 1020, 1218, and 1225 and comply with the European Union's Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (RoHS).
