This space-saving device is a low-distortion linear audio power driver that requires a minimal number of external components. The amplifier's MSOP package occupies only half the space of a typical SOIC-8, making the audio device suited for both cellular and cordles phones with tight space limitations and that have low dc power sources available. The TC4864 audio amplifier is well suited for notebooks or desktop computers, portable radios, hearing aids, and portable video games and toys.
The TC4864 amplifier operates over an input supply voltage range from 2.7V to 5.5V and is optimized for single supply operation. It can deliver 300 mW of continuous average power into an 8 ohm load with less than 1% total harmonic distortion when powered from a 5 Vdc source. The device extends the operating time of battery-powered systems by consuming as little as 0.1 µA in shutdown/mute mode. The TC4864 is priced at $0.87 each/1,000.
