For HDMI and DVI video-distribution across multiple monitors, the MAX3845 and MAX4814E form a 2:4 fanout switch chipset with the MAX3845 providing switching, fanout, and cable driving for TMDS signals while the MAX4814E provides I2C control of the MAX3845 and all switching of the DDC, 5V, and HPD signals. The chips can also create 2:4, 4:4, and 2:8 DVI switches with I2C control. The MAX3845 is reportedly the only digital video fanout switch to provide input equalization and output pre emphasis. It offers a selectable output current that enables the use of 200-Ohm back-termination resistors to absorb output reflections. Each output also includes selectable pre emphasis. The MAX4814E provides ±15 kV of ESD protection on all of its I/O ports. The MAX3845 comes in a 100-pin TQFP and the MAX4814E in a 64-pin TQFP. Prices start at $9.90 and $4.40 each/1,000, respectively. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
