Digital Pulsers Enhance Ultrasound Imaging

Relying on an active-clamping architecture to reduce second-harmonic output and allow complete control of each driver's output stage, the MAX4940/MAX4940A quad/dual, high-voltage digital pulsers reportedly improve image quality in ultrasound applications. Typically delivering 2A of output current, the devices are independently configurable to enable uni- or bi-polar pulsing in high-voltage systems from low-voltage logic inputs. The MAX4940A integrates blocking diodes to support five levels of pulsing while the MAX4940 is supports two levels. Both devices include a thermal-shutdown circuit and operate from a single positive supply up to +220V, a single negative supply down to -220V, or dual ±110V supplies.
