The MtW8150 is the first member of a family of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) devices that will enable IEEE 802.11n networks to deliver the performance and coverage to handle high-bandwidth digital entertainment content. It claims title as the first single-chip RF device to support MIMO antenna technology as per the IEEE 802.11n standard for next-generation Wi-Fi. The device integrates two complete and independent transmit-and-receive RF chains on a single chip. Operating in the 4.9 GHz to 5.9 GHz frequency range, it supports the pre-standard IEEE 802.11n specification, and it can also operate on the 20-MHz channel to maintain legacy interoperability. For HDTV distribution applications, the chip can be used in an asymmetric topology with more antennas on the service side than the client side. To increase throughput, multiple devices can be cascaded. Samples are available now with volume quantities ready in the third quarter. METALINK INC., Folsom, CA. (866) 302-5817
