For the purposes of this application the PLD needed to meet the following requirements:

  • intermediate storage of image data from multiple lines for image pre-processing
  • generation of control signals that can be shifted freely within the timing pattern to allow optimum sampling of sensor signals
  • control pulses had to be shorter than a clock pulse period while using only one clock source
  • safe and error-free data transmission to the receiving module
  • module control should be over the I2C bus
  • minimum space requirements to keep the transmitting module as small as possible
  • supply voltage of 3.3V providing 5V tolerance
  • industrial temperature range up to 85°C in the interior of the vehicle
  • non-volatile architecture, if at all possible.
