Robust Buck LED Controller IC Integrates Circuit Protection

March 21, 2013
Single channel buck LED controller IC features LED dimming resolution with full linearity from 100% to 1%.

The AOZ1948 single channel buck LED controller IC from AOS features LED dimming resolution with full linearity from 100% to 1%. Combining key performance and added integrated circuit protection capabilities for improved system reliability and robustness, the LED controller is able to support VIN levels from 9 V to 500 V, which suits it for use in ac/dc lighting applications such as general lighting for commercial and industrial environments, and backlighting for LED TVs. The controller’s current control method provides a purported best-in-class LED current regulation of better than 2% and supports duty cycles up to 90%. In addition, the IC integrates a number of fault detection and safety features such as over-current protection, auto-restart OCP, thermal overload, high voltage sensing and adjustable fault timer. Priced at $0.495 each/1,000, the AOZ1948 LED controller IC is available immediately in production quantities, with a lead-time of 12 weeks.
