The ADV216 video CODEC employs Analog Devices’ Wavescale compression technology, which is based on the JPEG2000 compression standard commonly used in high-end professional imaging applications. Tailored for consumer video applications, the technology allows the ADV216 to create high-quality wireless HD signal transmissions while eliminating the artifacts and error intolerance of MPEG-based solutions. The device also incorporates the company’s proprietary Spatial Ultra-efficient Recursive Filtering (SURF) wavelet technology, which enables real-time compression and resolution scalability without the need for external memory. The ADV216’s application program interface simplifies system design by allowing compressed data rates to be managed on a frame-by-frame basis, freeing HDTV manufacturers from having to design to worst-case transmission conditions. The CODEC also adapts to changing conditions, such as wireless data rate changes due to interference or other factors, without interrupting or dropping video frames. The CODEC supports HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) and Wireless HD transmission applications. The ADV216 comes in a 13 mm x 13 mm BGA package and costs $17.35 each/1,000.
