SENAO International Co. Ltd., a wireless communications systems manufacturer, has announced a new family of Wi-Fi phone products based on Atmel Corp.s AT76C901 and AT76C902 wireless voice over IP (VoIP) chips. The AT76C901 was featured in the March, 2004 issue of EE Product News.

SENAO's Wi-Fi product portfolio, incorporating Atmel's chips, includes monochrome- and color-display wireless VoIP phones and access points. These products are targeted at IP telephony service providers (ITSP) and carriers demanding customizable services.

As the demand for VoIP has grown, SENAO (Taoyuan, Taiwan; www.senao.com), with 10+ years of wireless and cordless phone experience, has invested heavily in VoIP R&D. The company recently launched their new line of Wi-Fi VoIP handsets—the SI-680H, 681H and 682H—at Computex in Taipei in May. The introduction highlighted the SI-682H handset using Atmel's (www. atmel.com) next-generation SoC chipset design. The handset features a large, 26-mm color LCD display. When supported by an ITSP, users may also send and receive PSTN calls. Its advanced voice compression provides high-quality voice and penetration of most firewall environments for wireless PC connection, delivering a cost-effective VoIP solution.

"We are excited and proud to announce our series of Wi-Fi phones," said Peter Chou, SENAO's CEO. "Atmel's cost- effective, high-quality, and stable performance chipset helped SENAO's Wi-Fi phone to achieve approval by many worldwide ITSP and carriers. And also based on Atmel's chipset, SENAO is the first and only phone maker in the world to have obtained Wi-Fi certification. We believe next generation 802.11a/b/g version with ATMEL '902 series chipset will get more positive feedback from the market."

"VoIP is opening new opportunities in telecommunications and SENAO's new Wi-Fi phones are a fine example," said TC Wu, Atmel's co-founder and executive VP. "We're proud that our expertise in wireless, low-power design is helping SENAO to bring new technology to key mass-market applications."
