EL Lamp Drivers Give Luminance A 5X Boost

July 1, 2002

Promising luminance five times greater than traditional EL lamp systems, the D305A EL lamp driver can power lamps measuring up to 180 cm2 operating on supplies from 2.5 to 16 Vdc. Designed for use with LCDs, the device features proprietary wave-shaping programmability, frequency control, and is said to ensure lamp-color stability over a wide temperature range. For smaller displays such as those in PDAs, the D381A operates on supplies from 2V to 7V. This device employs the company’s 3P topology, which allows users to ground one of the lamp’s electrodes to improve EMI management. Other features include dual oscillators and lamp-output control via external-capacitor values or separate external clock signals.
