In the Model 401A instrument, the industry is said to have its first handheld, battery-operated spectrum analyzer. The palm-size 401A Personal Spectrum Analyzer spans a 1- to 1,024-MHz frequency range and can be used to measure harmonic and spurious emissions, identify unknown or unwanted signals, monitor signals, measure field strength, and perform EMC pre-compliance testing. The latter is said to be simple to perform, as the limit lines for FCC part 15A/B and CISPR 22A/B are stored internally for easy display on the tester's measurement screen.
The analyzer comes with the P101A active E-field probe for troubleshooting and making EMC measurements and can display measurements in either dBm or dBµV/m. The instrument's sensitivity is -95 dBm. Three frequency markers are available for signal identification, with an internal save/recall capability facilitating the storage of up to 20 measurement setups and 20 traces.
Other 401A features include menu-driven operation using six soft keys, large LCD display, and availability of context-sensitive help menus to guide the user through the measurement process. The analyzer costs $2,995.
