Intel Atom Processor Powers Portable Medical Data Recorder

Dec. 28, 2010

Leicester, England: Emerson Network Power’s Embedded Computing team has developed its first design solution for Neusoft’s personal health care system, the Healthcare Integrated Portable (HIP) device, a medical data-collection terminal used by healthcare providers to supply medical services to patients in remote locations.

The Embedded Computing design services team used the Intel Atom processor as the cornerstone for the healthcare terminal and added components to enable the remote collection and transmission of medical data. Additional components include a camera, microphone and stereo speakers, memory and storage, 3G and Wi-Fi wireless modules, power supplies, and a color touchscreen display.

The Neusoft HIP device is designed to collect a number of medical measurements including blood pressure, blood oxygen, pulse rate, ECG, breathing, and body temperature. Its colour touchscreen makes for easy operation in the home and other remote locations with 3G and Wi-Fi access to upload the data to the hospital’s network and data storage.
