Varying and evolving standards make it hard for components to attain widespread implementation. As a result, components may choose to broaden their appeal. For example, Murata's 2-GHz-band isolator for the digital-mobile-phone market is significantly smaller and lighter. It also boasts increased performance levels. As a result, the components in this product line—dubbed the CES30 series—can be used in a variety of mobile-phone systems (1.5-GHz-band PDC, 2-GHz-band W-CDMA, and 1.9-GHz-band PCS).

The components in the CES30 series weigh only 0.06 g. They measure 3.2 mm2 by 1.6 mm high. In addition to their reduced size and weight, they make electrical-characteristic improvements. For example, they achieve an insertion loss of 0.5 dB maximum with an isolation of 14.5 dB minimum in the 1920-to-1980-MHz frequency band at normal temperatures. Compared to a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of 1.4 for previous products, they flaunt a VSWR at the input of 1.25 maximum. By placing the isolator at the power amplifier's output, the series also improves the impedance-matching performance. Finally, implementing a lead-free surface-mounting process allows the isolator to be reflow-soldered at a peak temperature of 260°C.

The company also simplified the product design. Compared to the previous process of mounting copper electrodes around a Ferrite, its new high-precision electrode-patterning technology creates a monolithic structure. A ceramic multi-layered substrate can integrate these capacitors with a resistor. Samples of the CES30 series 2-GHz-band isolator are available. The current lead time is four to six weeks.
