With a power output of 60 mW, the ML9XX37 single-mode distributed feedback (DFB) laser diode is intended for next-generation 40 Gbs fiber optic networks. Operation is specified over a temperature range of 0°C to 50ºC. The CW diode covers five channels within C-band (1530- to 1565-nm) for external modulation in dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) applications with 0.8 nm wavelength grid spacing between channels. The diode can operate over a distance of 100 km, and when coupled with a 10 Gbs external modulator can save system cost in long-reach applications because fewer diodes are necessary to place in tandem along the length of the network. A narrow line width of 1 MHz contributes to the long distance transmission capability in DWDM applications. The device is supplied with a carrier for easy handling and to enable chip-on-carrier production. Pricing is $305 each in sample quantities. MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC & ELECTRONICS USA INC., Sunnyvale, CA.
