Low power consumption and a high level of integration make the STE2000 and STE2001 liquid crystal display (LCD) driver ICs well suited for a wide range of compact, battery-powered handheld products, including all types of cellular phones, music players and portable games. The new chips integrate a complete controller/driver for 65x128 column black and white graphic LCDs. Small size and the absence of external components also make the devices suitable for chip-on-glass and chip-on-flex assembly techniques.
The chips contain all of the circuits needed to control and drive displays up to 65x128, including graphics functions and a selectable interface for connection to I2C, serial or parallel ports. No external components are required. The two types differ in the mechanical layout of the bonding pads, allowing flexibility in assembly of the display. Both devices are sampling now. In minimum quantities of 10,000, the chips are priced at $1.95 each.
