The parts count designers must contend with in integrating LCDs into portable and handheld products can be essentially reduced to one with the C545002, a LCD module that contains all of the components needed to make the LCD function in the finished product. The compact package provides 8 KB of data RAM, an oscillator, temperature-compensation circuitry, EL inverter circuitry, and a dc-to-dc converter. With only a single 3.3V power supply and input information, the LCD module is ready to display messages. Operating temperature range is from -20°C to +70°C. The LCD portion of the module provides a black-on-white contrast of 8:1 and a resolution of 128 x 64. Originally intended for a GPS unit, the C545002 can be used in PDAs, inventory control computers, pagers, cell phones, and other handheld and portable products.
