LED illuminators have been developed for back- and edge-lighting applications. With two diode chips, the RAB362 LEDs are said to deliver exceptional illumination to make displays, keypads and legends easier to read while preserving the lightweight, compact nature of portable electronic devices. According to the company, the RAB362 has longer operating life, superior brightness, lower voltage operation and less heat emissions when compared with alternative back-lighting sources. These right angle, single-level LEDs are designed for applications where the design requires the light sources to be perpendicular to the display plane. Measuring 0.362" long by 0.043" wide and 0.059" high, the product's bi-pin design has the stability necessary to align status indicators precisely. The LEDs are effective for back-lighting PDAs, cellular telephones, keypads, data communications equipment, active thin-film transistor LCDs and display legends. LEDTRONICS INC., Torrance, CA.
