Designers evaluating optical components used in wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) transmission systems can look to the ME7894A optical component test system. With a measurement wavelength of 1510 to 1640 nm, the ME7894A completely covers the C- and L-bands. This unit includes an advanced tunable laser source (TLS), an optical power meter, a high-sensitivity sensor, and control software. Its high dynamic range, which reaches above 50 dB, enables precise analysis of optical filters, couplers, isolators, and splitters during R&D and manufacturing. Measurements can be made in under 10 seconds when the number of measured data points is 5001 at a 20-nm wavelength range and 4-pm wavelength resolution. With the control software, measurement conditions can be input to a settings window on the PC and results displayed graphically on the screen. Pricing ranges from $48,000 to $85,000 each, depending on configuration. Delivery is within four to 10 weeks.
