Optical Transceivers Dance To The InfiniBand

Operating at a 2.5-Gb/s pace, the small form-factor (SFF) 2x5 and small form-factor pluggable (SFP) optical trans-ceivers are for use in InfiniBand communications systems, where they are intended to provide better I/O performance in heavy-traffic environs, such as in servers, remote storage systems, and in multi-processor systems. Eye pattern characteristics are also said to be improved, helping ensure reliable data transfers. Packaged in MSA-compliant, all-metal housings to help achieve excellent EMI and RFI performance, the low-profile SFF 2x5 InfiniBand transceivers can fit into mezzanine card systems. The hot-pluggable MSA-compliant SFP transceivers, in turn, use a standard LC fiber-optic interface and are also packaged in an all-metal housing. Pricing for the transceivers is under $100 each in large volumes. STRATOS LIGHTWAVE INC., Optoelectronic Products, Chicago, IL. (800) 323-6858.
