Feb. 9, 2007
Leveraging Techwell's advanced security surveillance and LCD display technologies, this reference design will enable system manufacturers to quickly develop Mobile DVR solutions that are highly functional and cost effective.

Techwell, Inc., a leading designer of mixed signal video semiconductor solutions for the consumer electronics, security surveillance, and automotive markets, today introduced a mobile DVR reference design for the In-Car Display market. Leveraging Techwell's advanced security surveillance and LCD display technologies, this reference design will enable system manufacturers to quickly develop Mobile DVR solutions that are highly functional and cost effective.

"We believe that the Mobile DVR is an exciting new application for the In-Car entertainment market and we expect to see significant design activity over the next several years," said David Nam, VP Sales and Marketing for Techwell. "We think that our ability to marry our security surveillance and In-Car LCD display products is unique in the marketplace and we are looking forward to working with system design and manufacturing companies to develop new solutions based on our platform."

The Techwell Mobile DVR reference design is based on the TW2700 Video CODEC and the TW8806 LCD Display Controller. The reference design supports simultaneous live, play, and record of up to four cameras. In addition, there is support for up to two hard disk drives each with over 250GB of capacity. Other features include foreign language OSD support, 16x12 cell motion detection and multiple search modes including event search, date/time search, and search bar. There is also an optional remote control and key pad. The TW8806 performs all of the necessary image processing required to display video signals including scaling and de-interlacing. An on chip programmable timing controller allows a direct connection to an LCD panel.
