With no moving parts and no fan to draw in dust, the Microbox-5824-ACP Thin Client is suitable for use in harsh and dirty environments where the user needs a standard Windows interface without the added expense of a special enclosure. The unit employs a 300-MHz Geode processor and comes standard with four serial ports. Measuring less than the size of a standard office telephone, it features a screw-in power supply connector that ensures the unit will not come unplugged even if mounted upside down or in high-vibration situations. Operating voltages are 5 and 12 Vdc and operating temperatures ranges from 0°C to 50°C. Management software, ThinManager, is said to provide users with an interface that is indistinguishable from a display generated by a PC, but without the maintenance problems. Single-unit price is $654. ARISTA CORP., Fremont, CA. (510) 226-1800.
