Additions To DSP Family Tout Low Power Dissipation And Cost

Consisting of five devices, the ADSP-218x N series, an extension of the company’s ADSP-218x family of digital signal processors, boast of lower power dissipation and cost compared to other family members. And the new series extends the code compatibility of all ADSP-21xx-based products and the pin compatibility of the ADSP-218x family. Operating at 1.8V, the new series of DSPs dissipates as little as 0.3 mA/MIPS and integrates from 320 KB to 2 MB of internal SRAM. The devices are well-suited for general-purpose DSP applications, communications equipment, and wired and wireless products, and in particular those applications requiring reduced battery usage, such as PDAs and other types of portables. Pricing starts at $6.00 each for the ADSP-2186N.
