Packing a wealth of features to reduce materials costs, the 2-channel DS3992 and 4-channel DS3994 cold-cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) controllers target LCD backlight applications in TV and PC monitors. The DS3992 supports a one-lamp-per-channel configuration with fully independent lamp control, while the DS3994 supports configurations of one to four channels and allows multiple DS3994 controllers to be cascaded. Both devices employ a push-pull drive scheme that uses a minimal number of external components. The drive scheme also provides an efficient dc/ac conversion and produces near-sinusoidal waveforms. Both devices operate from 4.5V to 5.5V. The DS3992 is available in a 16-pin SO package, and the DS3994 is available in a 28-pin SO package. Prices for the DS3992 and DS3994 are $0.60 and $0.85 each/1,000, respectively. DALLAS SEMICONDUCTOR CORP., Dallas, TX. (800) 998-8800.
