Enlisting the company’s TruSense and SineDrive technologies, the MLX81200 brushless dc (BLDC) motor controller forecasts new possibilities for system integration of automotive BLDC motor applications. TruSense technology combines reluctance measurement with BEMF sensing for detecting and tracking rotor position. The sensorless controller features dedicated hardware blocks as well as patented motor-control algorithms to guarantee failsafe and robust operation under automotive conditions. On the fly rotor position sensing allows startup to nominal speed within 70 ms. The SineDrive motor control allows for shaping motor current to optimize each motor’s efficiency and torque ripple. The technology also reduces audible noise plus conducted and radiated emissions. Other features of the MLX81200 include a 16 bit microcontroller, 30 KB of flash program memory, 2 KB of SRAM, 128 bytes of data EEPROM, a voltage regulator, RC oscillator, pre driver for directly driving six n-channel power FETs, shunt current sensing, an independent analog watch dog, high voltage I/Os, and several diagnostic functions. The MLX81200 is available in QFN48 and TQFP48 packages measuring 7 mm x 7 mm. Samples and development kits are available. MELEXIS USA, Concord, NH. (603) 223-2362.
