With an internal MOSFET that supports input voltages ranging from 4.5V to 20V at a continuous output current of 3A, the TPS54350 SWIFT (Switcher With Integrated FET Technology) dc/dc converter is said to simplify point-of-load (POL) power management designs. It does this by allowing µPs, DSPs and FPGAs to be powered directly from a mid-voltage bus instead of relying on an additional low-voltage bus. The converter can adjust output voltages down to 0.891V with 1% accuracy, offers greater than 90% efficiency, and is targeted at low-power industrial and commercial systems, LCD monitors and TV sets, hard disk drives, video graphic cards, and POL regulation off a 9V to 12V wall adapter. Other TPS54350 features include a programmable synchronization to external clock, load protection via peak current limit and thermal shutdown, and internal soft start. The 16-pin HTSSOP packaged device costs $2.45 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Santa Clara, CA.(800) 477-8924.
