Packing a digital signal processor and an ARM device on a single chip, the OMAP5912 processor is directed at portable data terminal applications that require high-performance processing with a robust user interface built on a high-level operating system. The chip integrates an ARM9 processor with a TMS320C55x DSP, including PDT-focused peripherals such as USB On The Go and a dual camera interface. Tasks can be partitioned between the ARM9 and DSP for increased performance. A number of operating systems are supported including Microsoft Windows CE, Linux, Integrity, Nucleus, VxWorks and the company’s own DSP/BIOS. The new version is an improvement over the previous OMAP59xx, providing 30% faster performance. Packaging options are the ZZG (12 mm x 12 mm, 0.5 mm pitch) and the ZDY (19 mm x 19 mm, 1.0 mm pitch.). Price is $33.47 each/10,000. For more details, call TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
