Deemed an industry first, the company's second-generation pre-processing switch, the PPS Gen 2 (80KSW0001), is described as an off-the-shelf device that addresses the interconnect and acceleration needs of 3G basestations. Employing a serial RapidIO interface and a lower port count, the device supports smaller DSP clusters common to micro and pico base stations. It distributes data to multiple DSPs to increase performance, supporting four pre-processing blocks via three 4x ports or up to twelve 1x ports, with the ability to connect among 4x and 1x ports. Each port is configurable for 3.125, 2.5, or 1.25 Gb/s. Similar to the previous generation, the PPS Gen 2 gains support via ATCA- and MicroATCA-compatible development platforms, designed in conjunction with Texas Instruments and including a range of software tools such as GUI, API, drivers, and third party tools. The 80KSW0001 is available in a RoHS-compliant, 676-ball BGA flip-chip package measuring 27 mm x 27 mm and a 324-ball BGA measuring 19 mm x 19 mm. Currently sampling, price is $55 each/10,000.
