The OnSpec xSil269 memory controller chip emerges as the industry's first such USB 2.0 NAND Flash controller to specify 128-bit, hardware-encrypted security. Compliant with the Advanced Encryption Standard, its hardware-embedded encryption/decryption function combines with two-level software authentication of passwords to prevent unauthorized access. The controller also supports Windows ReadyBoost, a performance enhancement capability that is part of the Vista operating system. ReadyBoost allows a flash device to store information that is being used by a PC's memory manager. Compatible with USB1.1 and USB 2.0 interfaces, the chip supports NAND, NAND MLC, and AG-AND media. Up to four chip selects allow extended addressing. Integrating 4-byte FEC in real-time, it also packs a 16-bit processor, serial port, two general-purpose timers, and a watchdog timer in a 48-pin, 9 mm x 9 mm LQFP. Samples are available now.
