Motor Controller Slashes Parts Count

Poised for automotive dc applications up to 6A, the IR3220S motor controller promises to reduce component count by as much as 90% compared to discrete designs. Rated at 40V, the device integrates an H-bridge controller with two high-side HEXFET MOSFETs in a single 20-pin SOIC package. Paired with two IRF7484 low-side MOSFETs, a complete H-bridge control actuator can be made with just 10 external passive components; no microcontroller is needed; and the H-bridge circuit measures just 21 x 25 mm. Other features of the IR3220S include shoot-through, over-temperature and over-current protection and over-voltage clamp and under-voltage lockout. Additionally, the controller integrates a programmable soft-start sequence using an internal 20-kHz PWM to limit in-rush current. Pricing is $2.90 each/10K.
