If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. And that's what Enea and Metrowerks have done. Their collaboration merges the OSE Nucleus and OSEck real-time operating system (RTOS) with Metrowerks Linux and the CodeWarrior Development Studio.

The combination makes a lot of sense. DSP- and processor-heavy communication applications in particular are ripe for OSEck and OSE. Linux provides system management. The various operating systems are interconnected via Enea's transparent communication system, OSE Gateway, and Link Handler.

Prior to the deal, designers already were able to build this configuration of OSEck and OSE. But this latest development environment provides configured and tested software that's integrated with the CodeWarrior Platform Creation Suite, minimizing a developer's learning curve. The solution incorporates Enea's Polyhedra embedded database. Therefore, developers can take advantage of its small footprint and security.

CodeWarrior pricing starts at $2994.
