Promising reduced power and design complexities, the BCM5825 public key and cryptographic processor is capable of performing 12,000 RSA transactions per second, 9,000 Internet key exchange negotiations per second, and 1 Gb/s of bulk advanced encryption standard and IPsec. For SSL applications, the processor can support 12,000 SSL sessions per second, which is said to improve the response time of Layer 4+ switches, server load balancers, servers, and other applications. The device offers acceleration for symmetric key functions at increased performance rates in VPN applications. Design support comes by way of the company's software reference library for IPsec and SSL application software. The BCM5825 software design kit includes support for VxWorks, Linux, and BSD operating systems. Currently sampling, the device is available in a 400-pin BGA package. BROADCOM CORP., Irvine, CA.
