Groomed for high-performance, large-volume sensor applications where cost is a major concern, the SSP1493 Sensor Signal Processor and Interface IC provides nine sensor ports and can measure resistive, capacitive, inductive, pulse-coded, current-mode, and voltage-mode sensors. It employs 10 user-configurable I/O channels that can be individually configured as an analog input, analog output, digital input, or digital output. User commands and sensor data are handled via a 2-wire, bi-directional I2C bus. The chip includes several band-gap voltage references that allow it to operate over a range of power supply voltages from 2.5V to 3.7V without compromising sensor accuracy or performance. Additionally, it operates from an integrated, 150-MHz clock that does not require external components. Available in 2 mm x 2.2 mm bondable bare die and in a 32-pin, 5 mm x 5 mm QFN RoHS-compliant package, prices start at $1 and $1.50 each in sample volumes, respectively. Evaluation kits are available for $100 per kit. SENSOR PLATFORMS INC., San Jose, CA. (408) 850-9350.
