The DS8113 smart-card interface performs level translation between a host microcontroller and a 5V, 3V, or 1.8V smart card while supplying up to 80 mA for card operation. Allegedly the industry's lowest, the device's power stop mode allows applications to support smart-card communication while drawing 10 nA when the card is inactive. Additionally, it provides ±8 kV of ESD protection. The DS8113 is a replacement upgrade for devices with higher-power consumption and no stop mode, such as the TDA8024 and the ST8024. Available in a lead-free, 28-pin SO package with an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, price starts at $0.88 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
