Synplicity has joined Xilinx's electronic system level (ESL) Initiative, bringing its DSP software to Xilinx's ESL design ecosystem. The aim of the Initiative is to promote design methodologies and tool flows for FPGAs, making it easier for designers and programmers to leverage Xilinx programmable devices in their next-generation systems. Synplicity will contribute its Synplify DSP environment, a modeling tool that lets designers optimize performance, capture multi-rate DSP algorithms and perform architectural exploration across multiple devices. Incorporating Synplify into the initiative enables users to easily map their DSP algorithms into any Xilinx device. "During the past 18 months, this initiative has gone a long way in providing FPGA users with access to a comprehensive ESL design flow," Joe Gianelli, vice president of business development for Synplicity, said in a statement. "We’re glad to be part of the industry’s transition to ESL design." According to market research, ESL design is one of the fastest-growing segments of the EDA market, with an expected 50 percent compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) over the next five years.
