Offered as replacements for ORing diodes, the TPS241x family of ORing controllers provides intelligent monitoring and control of power supplies to prevent bus transient events from causing faults or voltage spikes. The controllers support input voltages of 3V to 18V, and can control power supply voltages down to 0.8V. Paired with low on-resistance N-channel MOSFETs, they promise to increase system efficiency and reduce power dissipation when compared to standard ORing diodes. Features include a turn-off response time of 130 ns, programmable turn-off thresholds, on/off gate control, and input filtering functions. The TPS2410 controls an external FET for N+1 redundancy and ORing functions and operates over an industrial temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Available in 14-pin TSOPs, pricing for both the TPS2410 and TPS2411 is $1.70 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
